About Tenerife South Airport
Tenerife South International Airport (TFS) is situated in the south of the island. Also known as Tenerife South–Reina Sofía Airport, it is the larger of Tenerife’s two airports. TFS Airport was built due to problems with the location of the original Tenerife North Airport (TFN), as the north of the island experiences frequent adverse weather conditions with fog and low visibility, impacting take-offs and landings at Tenerife North.
Tenerife South Airport, inaugurated in 1978, has become the second busiest airport in the Canary Islands, having welcomed over 140 million passengers since its inception. In 2024, the airport marked a significant milestone by handling 13 million passengers, setting a new record as the highest number of travellers in a single year since its opening.
